To leave 3000 troops in Iraq is reckless and dangerous! As General Allen stated, “The option of this President is not the opiton of his Generals.” We, the American people, cannot allow this President to abandon our troops! These brave and noble Heroes, who risk their lives daily to keep us safe, deserve every consideration to keep them safe! Our troops need to know that we will stand for them as they stand for us! .

Leaving a mere 3000 troops in Iraq without close-at-hand support is tantamount to putting fish in a barrel for sharp-shooters! The Iraqi terrorists say it is a great idea. The President’s military advisers say “No”. The thinking and caring American people say “no”. The President must be emphatically made aware that the will of his constituents is the same as that of his military advisers. Can we let Mr. Obama know this?

3000 troops in Iraq? Why not just wave a white flag? President Obama and his lousy decisions are putting our troops in harms way. The US troops are our families, our children, our mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers. We want what’s best for them. Is Obama trying to send the message that he doesn’t care about their safety and well being? Then we send a message to him, DO THE RIGHT THING for once, listen to the generals, they know what they are doing.

Tired of our troops left hung out to get run over with no support. If they are bringing them out of that God forsaken place, then bring them home now! We’ve had more KIA’s since the “withdrawal” than ever before in Iraq. If their hands are tied and they won’t let them do their job, bring them home!

If we won’t leave enough troops there to provide a reasonable defense, according to our military chiefs, then get them all out. If the politicians won’t do this, than maybe we should send them over there to get their asses shot off.

“The 3000” reminds me of “The 300” Spartans that defeated the Persian hordes at Thermopylae. Perhaps Obama thinks that if 300 Spartans were a match for thousands of towel heads, then 3000 of our troops would be just fine if left alone and surrounded by hostile barbarian head-choppers.
The difference is that those 300 Spartans were led by Leonidas, a King worthy of his crown who fought with his Spartans. Our guys are stuck with the hunchback Ephialtes who can only offer hopey-changey on a toothpick.

I’d like to agree with Robert G above – “A decisive MILITARY VICTORY over an ancient evil” but I’m sure that’s asking way too much of the pansy liberals in charge right now. If we can’t turn our guys loose to fight and win, then bring them ALL home.

Obama, for once – just once – do the right thing. Dont abandon our American troops.

    • October 3, 2011 8:53 pm

bubba – i had thought about the 300 too, but then a friend sent me this email about
      Xenophon:

Basically, an army of Greek mercenaries were dragged into a Persian civil war under false pretenses. Their employer, the king’s brother and would-be usurper, was killed in battle near modern day Baghdad.

Normally, the Greeks would negotiate a deal with the winner and either join him or, more likely, be allowed to return home. Especially since the Greeks won the battle and were a large, disciplined force in good order.

Instead, at the negotiations the Persians murdered the Greek army’s leaders. A Persian force would fall apart in that situation, so they probably assumed Greeks would do the same.

Greeks were not Persians. Facing slavery or death, the Ten Thousand, as they became known, elected new leaders, among them Xenophon. They fought their way past the Persians, marched through barren desert and mountains in what’s now Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Armenia, finally reaching Greek colonies on the Black Sea.

Xenophon chronicled his experiences in the Anabasis, or March Upcountry.”

Our troops need all of us to do all we can.

Just Like Vietnam — our politicians have their agenda’s and our troops get tossed into the crap pile. Even the VFW and American Legion did not support the veterans of Vietnam. NO Groups existed, NO support was given, most people DID NOT CARE. Kerry and Fonda were rewarded as hero’s and the winners of Vietnam.

But unlike Vietnam this time — we have a significant number of groups, people and Vietnam veterans that care about our troops. We collectively need to do all we can to help where we can to protect our troops from the enemy AND the politicians. Especially the politicians who have historically cared more about their self serving interests and re-elections campaigns.

One of my favorite quotes is from Mark Twain “Always do right this will gratify some and astonish the others”.

The 3000 troops being left in Iraq, when their own Generals think it is wrong:

“Senior commanders are said to be livid at the decision, which has already been signed off by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta”. link: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/09/06/sources-obama-administration-to-drop-troop-levels-in-iraq-to-3000/

The senior commanders are ‘RIGHT’, because they have their troops on the ground at risk.

What can we do to support the commanders and protect our brave troops given the hostile political environment we are in? Each one of us would also “be livid” if we knew as much as the commanders do.

It’s time for our country to let the Iraqi’s spend their oil money on high paid Advisors & Contractors and to let all of our LOW PAID Military come home where they belong..If Iraq still needs training for their military after all of these years let them pay for it. The only thing the US should leave in Iraq in silent “death” drones to take out the Radical extremist’s like Muqtada al Sadr. We have done our job Sadam is no longer in power…it’s now time to bring ALL of the troops home.

viper – i absolutely agree with you, and was talking with someone about that today.
it does seem that there will be many private security people staying in iraq. BUT, they will be making the choice to stay there and they will be getting top-dollar for their services. our soldiers would have no choice about being there, and they would be getting paid nothing.

personally, i think that anyone who chooses to stay behind is crazy

  17. October 5, 2011 8:10 pm

Our troops need 100% support by the executive branch of our government. The military commanders and advisers should be listened to by the President, who has zero military experience and has not shown much support for the military, with the cuts he has made to enlistment bonuses and other programs and not strong support against terrorism in our country and abroad. People in this country need to continue to stand up to support the military, who protect us and make many sacrifices for our country and it’s people.

The key to effective leadership is to know what you know and what you don’t know and understand the difference. Mr. President, you are making decisions that you not only have no interest in but no knowledge, and that decision that will result in millions of deaths. I was supporting the evacuations of South Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in 1975; we are headed in that same direction if you continue to ignore the experts in lieu of your own agenda. Capitulation is the same as surrender, if you are determined to surrender, then do it and get all of our kids out of there now; I have kids serving over there.

to leave 3000 US soldiers in Iraq’s combat zones is far beyond unconscionable! Going against all military leaders advice will classify this act as abandonment and an accessory to murder! Not to mention treason because it willfully gives our enemies the upper hand; “aiding and abetting!”

All our troops must be brought home! In Afghanistan too! Trying to “win the hearts and minds” is the most idiotic strategy ever in the history of warfare. Because it denies 1400 years of Islamic history!

This action is deliberate and calculated!

We have just learned that one of our sons that serves our country in the US Army is now being deployed to Afghanistan for an entire year the first week of December 2011. As a mother I am GREATLY concerned and confused as to WHY these soldiers are being sent over there now when we have been told and fed the news that ALL of our troops are being brought home? Why in the month before this exit is suppose to take place, are our US leaders sending MORE troops over there? I try very hard to ALWAYS support AND to have continous faith in the leadership of our nation and our troops no matter what my personal beliefs or political choices may be, but this senseless act is much more than a betrayal to this mother and father, it is a betrayal to these courageous men and women, their wives, husbands, sons, daughters, unborn children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, community members and an entire nation. I continue to pray daily that the people our nation has elected to make these choices for our soldiers will come to their senses and to put themselves in this mothers shoes! I CHALLENGE YOU to think about the choices YOU would make if YOUR OWN son or daughter were being deployed in a month to a hostile environment clear across the world where he or she will NOT have enough weaponry, body armor OR other trained soldiers to help protect them! Sadly, I’m afraid that if you did that, you would do your best to REALLY have ALL OF OUR TROOPS out of there, but since it’s NOT YOUR child, you are ALL too willing to endanger the sons and daughters of others!
